Dental Implants - Some Things You May Not Know
For those of us who don't have perfect teeth, either because of bad brushing habits, disease or an accident, dental implants become a very valid
option when it comes to being able to eat normally and to improve our appearance and self-confidence. Each of us is different and our needs for

There are several different types of dental implants, but for all their differences, there are only really two basic types. The first type is what
most people think of when they think of an implant. A mounting post, for a quick and easy way to visualize it, is surgically embedded into the jaw and
an artificial tooth is affixed to the post. While this is the most dental curing light stable and natural replacement for a missing tooth, there are limitations and possible complications.
The most impactful complication is due to the structure of the jaw. If there isn't enough bone material available to mount the post in, a bone graft
has to be inserted to provide the support for the tooth. This will vary from person to person and at times, there may be no way to truly mount the
post in the jaw. However, those cases are few and far between. An oral surgeon will talk with you and discuss the options you have available for this

A slightly less expensive alternative, and an alternative that has to be used if a post can't be implanted is to create a bridge. Essentially, this
uses the teeth on either side of the missing tooth as the main support structure to retain the implant. The gum is incised and the support structure
for the artificial tooth is implanted with the bridge being placed underneath each tooth to the side of the missing one. After the gum is healed, the
artificial tooth is affixed to the exposed structure.
Unfortunately, unless the implant process is covered as part of an accident, dental implants may not be covered by your average health care plan.
Rider policies and secondary dental plans may cover implants, so checking with your insurance provider will be necessary. Regardless of which type of
implant you may be considering, just knowing that you do have options when it comes to replacing missing teeth gives us hope that we can be restored
to that perfect smile we've always wanted.
