Root Canal Treatment: Inside Out

Going for a dental check up or treatment is one of the greatest intraoral camera fears of all of us. Due to increasing dental problems these days, waiting for the turn to come up for the painful root canal treatment is more awful. People who have suffered this pain will surely be aware of how and why this happens and what the treatment all about is. The treatment includes treating of an inflamed pulped tissue of an infected or diseased tooth.

In order to remove the pulp and substitute a material which will prevent the possibilities of future infections, the treatment is done. As all the teeth has their own blood and nerve supply, the tissue is composed of nerve networks and blood vessels. The tissue is present in the center of the tooth root which is also termed as canal of a tooth. Some molars root canal endodontic have three or four canals or may be more and hence the cost of a root canal depends on the type of tooth to be treated.

An endodontic (pulp) treatment is required whenever there is severe tooth decay because of which the infection becomes sensitive. The idea behind the process is to prevent the teeth from being totally destructed. Advancement in technology has made almost everything possible but depending on how bad the infection is, sometimes tooth extraction is only way to get relieved of the pain.

As the pulp is removed during the treatment which has the nerve and blood vessels which keep a tooth alive and therefore the root canal treatment is followed by crowing procedure which can help a teeth survive for the lifetime.

There are a number of concerns related to the root canal such as how painful the dental material treatment is, will it cause other infections as well, how the requirement of a root canal treatment is determined, what all are the pre and post procedures related to the treatment, cost of a root canal etc. Well the procedure is painful yet modern methods like using anesthesia during the treatment can make the process painless. Earlier there was a myth that root canal can cause arthritis, heart disease and kidney disease but were never proven true. The need of a treatment is evaluated by the dentist or the symptoms include severe tooth pain while eating, sensitivity to hot and cold, swelling etc. The process or number of processes depends on the condition of the tooth.

The infection and the tooth to be operated on are the two decisive factors. Generally an entire treatment can be completed in two meetings or so. The root canal cost depends on how bad the condition of the tooth is, and the type of tooth that has to be treated. The approximate cost of a typical treatment ranges from $350 to $540 for the incisor and $520 to $800 for the molars. Root canal treatment is covered by almost all dental insurances. The cost can also vary depending if you are getting treated by a specialist or a typical dentist.
